In 2022, BVSD assembled a comprehensive set of facilities critical needs totaling $350M. It was funded through a taxpayer-approved bond. The work identified for Crest View Elementary will be done in the summer of 2026.

As a part of the community engagement process, the district has involved two PTO members, Millie Marshall and Dan Retzlaff, in a Design Advisory Team. This webpage will highlight elements of the work that we think the community may be interested in. If you have any feedback or questions, please reach out to us at bond@rocv.org or catch us in person. You can also contact the BVSD Project Manager, Gene Temanson.

Quick Links

The DAT Guidelines linked above contains a template for the project timeline and milestones. Here is a summary. We are currently in the programming phase, clarifying work items and needs. Next is the schematic design phase, where the architect will prepare preliminary schematic design drawings. Then the project proceeds to the more detailed design development phase. After this, the DAT’s involvement is essentially over. The project team develops construction documents, solicits bids, selects subcontractors, and begins construction.

The following table expands on the scope of work described in the project page, and includes the 2022 cost estimates. The project has a responsibility to deliver on these specific promises to voters. However, within the scope of these items, there is some flexibility on design details. That’s where community input through the DAT process comes in.

The “playground surface” item has the most applicability to the community interests we’ve heard. We’ll try to get a basic understanding of the kitchen, plumbing, and roofing items, but we don’t expect they’re areas for significant DAT input.

The content below is not official project descriptions or photos. They were taken by Dan to communicate with the project team, and with you! I hope they help.

Playground Surface Work

Design team will look for a solution to pooling water around garden beds. They are a hazard when they freeze. The beds may be moved to another location, or we may replace the asphalt with something permeable.
The five tetherball poles on the 4th/5th playground will be removed.
Tetherball poles will not be installed in these three circles, but they maybe repainted so kids can still play “2-square.”
The flower bed outside the art room needs its perimeter repaired. Grinding the stump would be good.

Basketball Backboards

4th/5th Basketball rims need net hooks replaced at a minimum.
The footing has shifted on this pole, and it’s no longer vertical.

Flagpole Renewal

Gutters

Fire Alarm Control Panel

This panel will be replaced, and relocated out of Deann’s office.
